Additional university, college district and school district police contacts

For an incident connected to one of these campuses or districts, confirm which agency handled it. These agencies serve educational institutions and are separate from the municipal police department count. Locations are labeled as police contact addresses or, where specified, the campus served.

Calling a police department to find someone after an arrest

Have the person's full name, date of birth if known, approximate arrest time and location, and any available report or booking number ready. Ask whether the department handled the arrest, whether the person remains with the department or was released, and whether a receiving jail has been confirmed. If county booking is confirmed, check the official inmate search and current detention facility.

Need help identifying the agency or current jail?

Request an inmate search with the information you have. To submit the inquiry, provide your full name, telephone number and the inmate's first and last name. A booking number is optional. If you do not know the date of birth, select "Date of birth unknown." If you do not know the facility, leave "Unknown / Not sure" selected. Add the approximate arrest date or location in Additional Information.

Police department and recent-arrest questions

Does every Riverside County city have its own police department?▾

No. As checked October 19, 2026, 13 of the county's 28 incorporated cities have municipal police departments, and 15 receive city police services through the Riverside County Sheriff. The directory lists both arrangements so you can start with the appropriate local contact.

Are Riverside Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff the same agency?▾

No. Riverside Police Department is the City of Riverside's municipal police agency. The Riverside County Sheriff provides separate law-enforcement services and operates county detention facilities. A Riverside Police arrest and the person's later county jail custody may involve both agencies at different stages.

Why do some cities have a police department name but a Sheriff station contact?▾

Some Riverside County cities contract with the Sheriff for municipal police services and use a city police name. The Sheriff-served city table identifies the responsible station. Confirm which agency actually handled an arrest instead of relying only on the wording on a vehicle, uniform or search result.

Should I call a police records office to find out whether someone is still in jail?▾

Records offices handle police reports and related records services. For a very recent arrest, use the agency's published police or dispatch contact and ask who can confirm custody or transport information. For confirmed county jail custody, use the current inmate record and the identified detention facility.

Does a police station address tell me where a recently arrested person is being held?▾

No. A station address identifies a police contact location. The person may be elsewhere for processing, may have been released, or may be in county custody. Ask the agency to confirm the current location and whether a transfer actually occurred before traveling.

Where should I start if I do not know which agency made the arrest?▾

Gather the person's name, the approximate arrest time and location, and any available paperwork. Use the city and agency contacts in this directory as a starting point, then ask which agency handled the incident. You can also request inmate-search assistance with the details available; a booking number is optional.

Sources and contact review

Official department websites and contact or records sources are linked in each municipal listing. The city inventory was reconciled with Riverside County's incorporated-city directory and the California POST agency directory. Contacts checked October 19, 2026.
